Bold Mariner Brewing Company was founded on a simple belief: craft beer should be approachable, well-made, and, most importantly, shared. What began in 2015 as a family dream—born in a Norfolk warehouse—has grown into a multi-faceted, coastal hub just steps from the Chesapeake Bay. Today, Bold Mariner blends quality craft brewing, locally roasted coffee, and warm hospitality into a vibrant gathering place for locals, travelers, and beer lovers around the world.

OUR STORY

Founded by Kerrie and Michael Stacks, Bold Mariner is the product of passion, perseverance, and a deep respect for tradition. Michael, a Navy veteran and Michigan native, first learned to brew alongside his father and grandfather, long before the craft beer “boom.” What began as a homegrown hobby eventually took root in Norfolk, growing into a full-scale brewery and community space shaped by years of family brewing and military service.

In 2018, the team moved operations into a former bank in Ocean View. From that iconic location, they opened a morning café, added a kitchen to serve their legendary seasonal fares, and created an event space that now hosts weddings, retirement parties, neighborhood celebrations, and more. The vibe is upscale rustic meets international café: beach-goers, regulars, and new friends all under one roof, raising a pint or sipping espresso.

Though deeply rooted in Norfolk, Bold Mariner’s reach extends far beyond. Their flagship Frogman Lager and other craft staples are now enjoyed in Sweden, the U.K., the Middle East, Africa, and beyond. As part of the Brewer’s Association, they showcase American craft beer at international festivals, gaining recognition for their balanced, drinkable styles.

At its core, Bold Mariner is still a local brewery with a global heart. They brew what they love to drink - classic ales and lagers with room for the occasional experiment - and believe every good beer deserves a second round.

BOLD MARINER GIVES BACK

Bold Mariner's military roots run deep, and so does the Bold Mariner’s commitment to service. A portion of local beer sales goes directly to the Navy SEAL Foundation, and their monthly volunteer beach cleanups have helped remove thousands of pounds of trash from local shores.
